My name is Paraskevi and I have been diagnosed with PPMS for nearly 30 years now.
I was taking the DMD Gilenya for the previous 10 years.
My neurologist kept advising me that this drug was working, it was halting my MS as I hadn’t had a relapse within that 10 year period.
My disability however in particular my mobility was rapidly deteriorating.
I was heavily reliant on my family for the upmost support. I could not walk unassisted.
I kept dragging my right foot, holding onto anything I could to get around the house. I kept losing balance & falling.
I was forced to a walker & wheelchair!
I decided I was not going to let this disease define me.
I wanted to be a healthy & able mother. I wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle on her special day.
This drive led me to Russia to undertake HSCT.
When in arrived in Russia Dr Federenko advised me my EDSS was 7.5.
I am now 5 months post HSCT and feel grateful to have had the opportunity to undertake this treatment.
I have been doing physio twice a week and my exercises daily to build my strength and am over the moon with the progress I am making in such a short time post treatment.
Prior to HSCT I could not stand unassisted let alone walk.
I hope my story inspires others to also take the plunge and undertake what is the only treatment to date proven to STOP MS for most.
It truly is life changing.
